BMW Berlin Marathon 2019

Time: 1416Hrs

Bib number 20356 crosses finish line. End of journey.

“But whatever purpose you set, remember, it’s not just about the goal but about the journey towards it. The journey toward your goal provides happiness and meaning – more than actually reaching the goal ever can. The euphoria you will feel crossing the finish line dissipates all too quickly while memories of your trip last a lifetime ” Joanna Barsh

What is success in a race? It’s all the things we notice. The broken world record. The medal. A personal best. It’s crossing the finish line. It’s what you dont see. The training journey taken by all these runners many months before the race.

The running season is at peak. Berlin marathon. Doha IAAF championships. Chicago marathon. Ineos 1.59. Challenge. Nairobi marathon. New York marathon closing the season as Christmas knocks. The adrenaline highs at the finish lines overwhelm both runners and fans. But pause, before the excitement dies off and disappointment of missed targets weigh us down. How did we get there? Everyone took a journey. When they signed up stuck their head up to take on their race.

My story

BMW Berlin marathon 2019. This race. This course. The lesson.

My lense. My thoughts.  Focused on the journey that carried me to the finish line.  A journey that broke limits. A journey that the finish line didnt do justice but whose lessons will linger on beyond many finish lines to come. This race taught me to appreciate the

journey I have taken. The months of early a.m. The hard training sessions. The training on the go. The discipline. The consistency. The determination. The juggling different roles that I love:  being a wife, a mum, a sister, a daughter, a friend, a responsible kenyan citizen with the duty to build the nation and pay her taxes – promptly as she earns, and oh yes – a student. I don’t seek perfection in all these roles. I seek to be my best version at any moment. Setting my own standards with my own yard  stick that those close to me have helped me define. Striving to find that special me space to re- energize then come forth to the world and give my best. That space I let go. My free fall space. My addictive space. My doped space. My explosive space. My “me being me”space. Guard of space keep at it. Change nothing. Fly the kite. Let your fingers flip the kite. And when it’s dawn’s bring it down to take it higher skies than the day before. 35,000 feet. Amazing what happens when you let go inhibitions.limits.

How did these sisters : Allyson, Kipyegon and Fraser survive milk stuffed tits on track…! Come on you got to give a standing ovation to those lasses.

Check this: Olympian Allyson Felix. Breaks Usain Bolt’s record. 10months after a C-Section due to a severe preeclampsia. She admitted it was super challenging. But she did it. What a journey.

Faith Kipyegon, put up an amazing run to win a silver at the 1500m race! She just returned after giving birth to a daughter last year.

Fraser Pryce was crowned fastest woman in the world, two years after she gave birth to her son, Zyon

Woow.

Given. We are all different but surely you must be inspired by these beauties! And hot they look while at it.!

God has been great and faithful and if all this not be for His glory and service then it be not worth. He has blessed me with a great attitude.

I glorify God through every breath I took. Every step I took.

I love training. I love the journey. I miss it already.  Each of my journey, to the finish line has been unique, revealed lots about self, opened up my inner self to the possibilities of life in various aspects beyond running. I shall keep at it because the journey is the real deal that lingers on. The medal well…a constant reminder of that journey. The PB…a welcome reward. A missed target…a constant reminder of why I need to keep at it until I hit it. Yes. Until I hit that target. Whenever.

wherever. And if we don’t hit it…we still find a great reason….Meanwhile we steer forward. Because there’s so much more we gain from this journey!
